How this magazine works
The rules we hold ourselves to. If you think we have broken one, say so and we will answer on the page.
Facts
Every important fact links to where it came from. That means the legislation or the regulator or the company's own published page. Each page shows the date the legal position was last checked. When a standard changes we change the page and say when. Quotations are checked against the original before they go up.
Legal and safety pages say which part of the UK they apply to. England and Wales share most fire and safety law. Scotland and Northern Ireland have their own. Where it matters we say so.
Opinion
Opinion is labelled as opinion and sits in its own block on the page. We never present the editor's view as the regulator's words. We never present a recommendation as a legal deadline.
Labels
Every service on this site carries one of five labels. Required by law. Required if. Good practice. Insurers or landlords ask for it. Optional and often oversold. The label is the first thing you should look at. It tells you whether you have to.
Corrections
Material errors are corrected on the page with the date of the change. The correction stays visible. Write to editor@compliancebuyer.com.
Right of reply
When we write about a named company we send them the article before it is published. Any response is published in full and unedited. A company can respond at any time afterwards and the response goes on the same page.
Independence
Nobody pays to appear on this site. Nobody pays to be reviewed or recommended. There is no advertising from compliance suppliers and no affiliate income from them.
The editor founded RiskSorted. It is a separate compliance services business. That is a conflict of interest and we state it here and on the About page. The magazine does not prefer RiskSorted. The assistant does not refer readers to it. Nothing you type here is passed to it. If RiskSorted is ever reviewed on this site the review will be written by someone else.
What has been checked
Where a fact comes from the law or the regulator the page says so and links to it. Each page shows the date its sources were last checked. My opinion sits in its own box so you can tell it from the facts. If someone else has reviewed a page their name is on it.
Your questions and your data
You can ask the assistant anything without giving an email address. You can upload a quote or a report for a plain English explanation. Documents are used to answer your question and are not kept beyond that.
Questions and conversations are analysed in aggregate to improve answers and coverage. That means we look at which topics come up and where people get stuck. We do not build files on individual readers or businesses. Names and personal details are removed from anything we analyse. Aggregate findings may be published here or shared with research organisations. Nothing that identifies a reader or a business is ever shared.
If you sign up for the Buyer's Brief we hold your email address to send it. Every issue has a one click unsubscribe. We do not sell or pass on the list. To have your data deleted write to editor@compliancebuyer.com.
What this site is not
It is not legal advice. It is not a risk assessment. It does not certify anything. Where your situation is unusual or the risk is serious we say so and tell you to get a competent professional.
